My America: Portfolio 1, Quartzsite

My work as a car photographer takes my all around the United States seeking locations. Occasionally I come across towns and places that don't fit with the norm. One such place is Quartzsite, Arizona; a one-road town alongside Intersate 10. Once popular as a market place for minerals (hence the name) it is now a popular winter destination for 10,000 'snowbirds' in their RV's. The winter sun is warm but in summer the temperatures soar to 120+, so the snowbirds move on, leaving a couple of thousand full-time residents to survive among the cactus.
Since I first stopped there in 2008 I have tried to visit 3 or 4 times a year, even making special trips, to try and capture the town and its people in all seasons. An ongoing project for sure - but here are some of my original images taken in Summer 2008.
Throughout 2011 I will upload more portfolios from other places I am trying to document. Full Quartzsite Portfolio Here
